Komoot Partners with the Giro d’Italia - multi-year deal brings inspirational route content to cycling fans
Potsdam 3rd of May, 2022 - Cycling fans to be rewarded with routable Giro d’Italia Stages and a comprehensive guide to cycling in each region of the 2022 Giro d’Italia.
Komoot, the leading source of inspirational cycling content for 25 million people worldwide, announces a new partnership with RCS, the organiser of the Giro d’Italia. Komoot comes on board as the ‘official route planner’ of this year, and next year’s event. The collaboration is aimed at inspiring the predicted 8 million cycling fans of the Giro to follow in the tracks of the professional riders and enjoy the cultural offerings that host regions have to offer.
Routable stages of the Giro d’Italia are available to download from komoot in this collection The 105th Giro d’Italia on komoot and for the first time ever, a comprehensive Cycling Guide Giro d'Italia 2022 with the best cycling routes in each region of the race will be at spectators’ fingertips.
The 105th edition of the Giro d’Italia starts in Budapest on May 6th and finishes in Verona on May 29th. The pro peloton will tackle 21 gruelling stages over a 3-week period. An estimated 8 million cyclists and fans travel to watch the race, many of whom will share the spirit of the race and do some cycling while there. This multi-year partnership with komoot will enable spectators of the Giro to re-live the experience of the pro peloton by navigating the race routes found on komoot or re-planning them to suit their needs. The routes of each of the 21 stages of the Giro d'Italia will be hosted on a dedicated Giro d’Italia profile on komoot. And for cyclists who prefer a more leisurely, cultural experience during their stay in Italy - over 30 hand-curated routes in the regions the Giro passes through, are also available on komoot and the Giro d'Italia website.
Our collaboration with the Giro d’Italia perfectly supports our mission to make outdoor adventures accessible to all. We invest a lot of energy into enhancing our community’s cycling experiences and now, spectators of the Giro will be presented with routes to make their Giro experience even more meaningful. We are honoured and excited to be part of such a historical fixture on the professional cycling world stage.According to komoot CEO Markus Hallermann
The collection of hand-picked regional cycling routes for the 105th Giro d’Italia on komoot is the result of a close collaboration between the Italian tourism board ENIT (Agenzia nazionale italiana del turismo), road infrastructure organisation ANAS (Azienda Nazionale Autonoma delle Strade) and komoot. The routes can be downloaded for offline navigation on a smartphone or synced with GPS devices. Additionally - routes can be modified to start and finish at any location. With a komoot Premium subscription - accommodation en route, weather forecasting, and personal Collections that showcase the rider’s experience in a chronological storyline can also be created.
A lot of competitive cyclists (in the past, myself included) ride the same routes over and over to replicate conditions that benefit their performance. What many don’t realise is that there is a world of interesting routes on your doorstep that add variety to your riding without interfering with performance. Komoot opened up a whole new world for me. Like other cyclists who have continued their passion for cycling beyond their pro career - komoot has helped me realise there is a world of exciting adventure to be experienced by bike and I can continue my love of cycling beyond the peloton.
