Komoot opens applications for the komoot Women’s Badlands Rally 2024

• In April 2024 komoot and Lael Wilcox will host the komoot Women’s Badlands Rally, starting in Granada and finishing in Almería, Spain. 

• Komoot Women’s Badlands Rally 2024 is open for applications from the 15th to the 22nd of February. 

• The komoot Women’s Rally events aim to connect, unite, and break down the barriers in adventure cycling by making adventures by bike more accessible to women and all who identify as women of all backgrounds.

• Komoot will host two Women’s Rally events in 2024, one in Europe and one in the US - details about Fall (Autumn) 2024 komoot Women’s US Rally will be shared by komoot later in Spring.

Potsdam - 15th February 2024 - Komoot and endurance cyclist Lael Wilcox will host the komoot Women’s Badlands Rally 2024 between April 20th and 27th this Spring. This event will be the seventh komoot Women’s Rally to take place, with the aim to encourage more women, trans and non-binary riders to experience incredible bikepacking routes and to bring the community together. 

The first komoot Women’s Rally in 2021 was a direct response to women often being underrepresented in cycling. The goal of each komoot Women’s Rally is to share knowledge, learn-by-doing, and above all else, have fun.

Komoot and Lael have since hosted sixth more Women’s Rally events, with many of the previous rallies riding iconic European bikepacking routes including the Torino-Nice Rally route, and the GranGuanche Gravel route.

In November 2023, the komoot Women’s Arizona Rally was the first to take place outside of Europe, making the event more accessible for women and all that identify as women living in North America. The Fall (Autumn) 2024 komoot Women’s Rally will continue this and again take place in the US– more event details will be shared by komoot later in Spring.

The komoot Women’s Badlands Rally 2024 starts in Granada and finishes in Almería, Spain. Riders can expect a wild and remote 680 km route from the mountains, through deserts, to the coastline.

“There are so many elements that go into a great bikepacking route– quiet roads, spectacular views, welcoming communities, open space, rolling terrain, camping and access to supplies and transportation. From the mountains, to the coastline, to sandy beaches, riding in Southern Spain is romantic.” says Lael Wilcox

Route highlights will include the forests of the Sierra de Huétor Natural Park, with magnificent views of the Sierra Nevada and the ever present Pico Veleta at 3,398 m (11,148 ft). The Gorafe and Tabernas deserts– the Tabernas Desert being home to the only desert climate on the European continent, and bound by three large mountain ranges: Filabres, Alhamilla and La Alpujarra. 

After the wild coastline of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, the last stretch of the route passes through the Sierra de Gádor, a mountain range between the Mediterranean Sea and Sierra Nevada, characterized by steep sided valleys with hilly switchback tracks.

The komoot Women’s Badlands Rally 2024 event is limited to ~ 50 participants to keep an intimate feeling and ensure that small local towns and communities are not overstressed during the event. 

Applications for the komoot Women’s Badlands Rally 2024 are open from 15th to 22nd February 2024 23.59pm (CET). Successful applicants will be told by email on 27th February 2024.
