For Immediate Release

Potsdam - 31st July 2024 - Komoot and endurance cyclist Lael Wilcox will host the 2nd komoot Women’s Arizona Rally between 9th and 16th November this Fall, shortly after Lael Wilcox returns from her Round the World ride. The second komoot Women’s Rally outside Europe is intended to build on the success of the first edition in 2023. This unique bikepacking event is aimed at women and all that identify as women living in North America, and invites 75 of them to ride with komoot and Lael - starting and finishing in Tucson, Arizona, her hometown, and featuring many of her most-loved local riding locations.

When I’m back home from my ride around the world we will host the second komoot Women’s Arizona Rally. We would love to have you there and ride together in my backyard - connect with one another, stop for coffee, ride in the desert and sleep under the stars. Says Lael Wilcox

Komoot Women’s Arizona Rally 2024

The komoot Women’s Arizona Rally 2024 and route are unique and special, with the route being created by Lael herself, and taking in many of her favorite trails and training roads. Starting and finishing in Tucson, Arizona, there have been some small improvements to the route after the 2023 edition and riders can expect a wild and remote route, 370-mile (600 km) long.

The Tucson women’s rally combines my favorite loop in the north to lovely remote riding near the (Arizona) border. Says Lael

The route includes Mount Lemmon, which she describes as her ‘true love in the area’, a paved road climb that gains 6,000 feet (1,800 m) in 20 miles (32 km), and passes through a diverse ecological range – starting in the Sonoran desert and finishing in ponderosa pine and mixed conifer forests.

A highlight of this trip will definitely be camping. Arizona has a wealth of public land and much of this route passes through BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land where it’s legal to camp for free. The desert is dry and this is a dark sky area— the best for sleeping under the stars adds Lael

It’s not a race — participants can ride at their own pace, make friends, help each other, share meals, campsites and take shortcuts. These Rallies are often special because of the time riders get spend together.

Komoot Women’s Rally Events

The first komoot Women’s Rally was a direct response to women often being underrepresented in cycling. The rallies aim to connect, unite, and break down the barriers in adventure cycling by making bike adventures more accessible to women of all backgrounds. The goal of each komoot Women’s Rally is to share knowledge, learn-by-doing, and above all else, have fun.

Now in their 4th year of running, to date over 350 women, from 23 countries, and ranging in age from 21 to 68 years old, have participated in the Rally events. Previous editions have used some of world’s most iconic bikepacking routes including the Torino-Nice Rally route, the GranGuanche Gravel route, that transverses the Canary Islands, and most recently the Badlands Gravel route in Spain, which links the Gorafe Desert, the Tabernas Desert and Cabo de Gata Natural Park - landscapes that are unique in the world.

The 2023 Arizona rally encompasses the core foundation of camaraderie and friendship through all the adventure bikepacking. Knowing that you’re surrounded by 50 other women doing the same exact thing in their own way is a unique experience that can flourish once a space like the komoot Women’s Rally is created.
